Landscape Drainage

Georgia's Drainage Challenges

Georgia's clay soil often leads to drainage problems, causing water to puddle and create muddy yards. If your property has a slope, excess water may flow and create soggy lawns.

Impact of Poor Drainage

Poor drainage, especially after heavy rain, can damage your home's foundation, patios, and walkways, and even kill plants. Unchecked water can lead to basement flooding and unsafe conditions.

Effective Drainage Solutions

  • Dry Creek Beds: These trenches, lined with gravel or rock, direct water down a slope while adding visual appeal to your landscape. They mimic natural streams and serve as a beautiful contrast to green grass.

  • French Drains: Invented by Henry French, these gravel-filled trenches channel water off the surface and into the ground. With depths of up to 3 feet, they provide effective water infiltration and prevent sediment clogging.

  • Downspouts: Properly directed downspouts, equipped with splash blocks, prevent foundation damage by discharging water at least 10 feet away from the house. For optimal results, connect downspouts to underground drain tiles leading to a suitable outlet or pop-up outlet.
